Job Description

Main duties include:

1. Ideally to be experienced and qualified in child care and be able to demonstrate a good understanding of child development and the Early Years Foundation Stage.

2. Effectively deliver the EYFS ensuring that the individual needs and interest of children in the setting are met (in conjunction with other team members)

3. To act as a key person to a small group of children, liaising closely with parents/carers and ensuring each child’s needs are recognised and met:

• Make various and regular observations on all children in the group

• Use observations made by you, other staff and parents/carers to inform planning and for individual needs

• Ensure that planning meets your allocated children’s needs.

• Ensure that parents/carers are regularly informed of their child’s enjoyment, achievements and progress.

• Ensure that every child’s learning journey is kept up to date and that next steps are current and relevant.

• Ensure that your allocated children are making their best progress through the development statements, as detailed in the EYFS, advising the group SENCO/manager of any concerns

4. To help to set up the playroom for the daily programme and to help tidy away and clean at the end of the session

5. Be an active member of the staff team

6. To develop and maintain strong partnerships and communication with parents/carers to facilitate day-to-day caring and early learning needs.

7. To ensure the provision of a high quality environment to meet the needs of individual children having an awareness of any disabilities, family cultures and medical histories.

8. To be flexible within working practices of the setting, undertaking other responsible duties where needed, such as domestic tasks, preparation of snack meals, cleansing of equipment, etc.

9. To keep completely confidential any information regarding the children, their families or other staff which is learned as part of the job

10. To be aware of, understand and adhere to the group’s policies and procedures and any changes to them

11. Any other duties as reasonably required by the pre-school manager.

We operate an electronic online Learning Journal system, so you must be computer literate.
