They do this by keeping crime out, protecting children and vulnerable people and ensuring the commercial gambling industry is run fairly and openly. They work with the legal system, the public health system, community groups and the industry itself to understand how they can protect the interests of as many people as possible, as effectively as possible.

Our client is currently looking for a Head of Legal to join them in Birmingham and provide legal advice to the Commission on its powers.

The Role

As the Head of Legal, you will oversee our clients in-house legal function and provide advice to their organisation, enabling them to overcome challenges and become more effective.

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, you will oversee complex and varied caseloads, which will include administrative and public law, regulatory and gambling law, data protection, prosecutions under the Gambling Act 2005 and National lottery matters.

Leading the Legal team, you will:

- Recruit, develop and coach employees and help to create a fantastic work environment
- Represent the Commission at key meetings and senior-level stakeholder events
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement

About You

To join our client as their Head of Legal, you will need:

- To be a qualified solicitor, barrister or equivalent at a senior/partner level with a minimum of six years post-qualified experience
- Experience of public law, an interest in gambling law, sympathy with the three licensing objectives of the Gambling Act 2005 and the ability to provide legal advice across a wide range of topics
- Proven team leadership skills and the ability to support, motivate and develop staff and contribute to the corporate leadership of the Commission

Experience in any of the following areas would be beneficial to your application: regulatory law matters, advising on the conduct of prosecutions, freedom of information and data protection, or contract law and procurement issues.
