If so, Alliance Employment are supporting a Newport based charity to recruit a confident Housing First Support Worker on a temporary basis to provide a housing-related floating support service to people with alcohol addiction across the City.

Housing First was first developed in New York in 1997 and was introduced to South Wales in 2017. The support programme is based on the belief that housing is a fundamental human right. The programme provides vulnerable people and those suffering from homelessness with a place to live and tailored, long-term support to help enable them to manage their tenancy independently and live a more fulfilled life.

As the Housing First Support Worker, you will follow an outreach and harm reduction model and proactively engage street drinkers to deliver a range a programme of support created around their individual needs.

You will be creative in your approach to help clients develop and sustain the skills required to live independently and maintain their home. Furthermore, the Housing First Support Worker will support clients in Newport to develop connections and engage with mainstream statutory and voluntary agencies, providing access to medical, mental health, housing, substance and alcohols misuse services.

It is important for the successful applicant to have a strong understanding of the housing and the welfare benefit systems, in order to support clients to access suitable housing and maximise their income through benefits.

In addition, it is important you possess the confidence and ability to develop strong partnership arrangements with appropriate agencies in Newport e.g. police service, health, probation, housing, supporting people, social services and third sector providers.

This is a great opportunity to gain invaluable experience working within an innovative programme, achieving positive results in the fight to reduce homelessness in Wales.
