Job Description

About the role:
Reporting to the Distribution Water Quality Manager you will be responsible for providing technical expertise to operational teams, in the field of drinking water quality and clean water distribution systems. Furthermore, you will be pivotal in developing the technical expertise of a small team of Water Quality scientists.
Within this role, you will be primarily responsible for ensuring appropriate investigation to water quality failures, events and customer complaints as well as providing the necessary water quality approval, for maintenance or upgrade of the distribution system. There will also be opportunities to carry out field activities (Network risk assessments) and network investigations in response to identification of risks to the water supply.
Key responsibilities for the role include:
Ensuring the team maintains and develops current expert knowledge with regard to advances with respect to network water quality and maintenance of water quality.
Taking responsibility for investigations into operational and statutory failures for network water quality parameters where initial response shows an ongoing issue.
Acting as event scientist for network water quality events and incidents.
Technical input to relevant distribution regulatory returns, commitments, notices and undertakings and relevant Company Network Asset Management Standards.
Supporting the team on the review of relevant P2W activities requiring WQ sign off.
Developing relationships with external stakeholders to maintain the Company brand and to ensure new developments are rapidly understood by the team.
Participation in DWSP audits/network risk assessments.To be successful you will have the following skills and experience:

Previous experience of working within the Drinking Water Industry is essential.
Field experience of network operations.
Qualified to HNC/Degree level in an appropriate discipline and/or experience in a scientific field.
A good understanding of the relevant legislation, regulatory and operational requirements surrounding water quality would also be advantageous.
Strong organisational & communication skills to engage with key stakeholders across the business.
Ability to work in a logical and analytical manner and maintain a positive and professional approach when dealing with customers.
Working as part of an essential team that protects the public health, you must be a strong team player with the ability to respond to events.
Competent with Microsoft Office Tools.
Basic knowledge of GIS (geographic information system) would be advantageous.
Travel to other sites is a requirement of this role so and possession of a valid UK driving license is therefore essential.What''s in it for you?
