My client is an innovative and creative automotive consultancy company. They support clients with the design and development of a broad range of automotive systems from conventional powertrain, body electronics and controllers through to ADAS, electric vehicle systems and the provision of functional safety consultancy.
They seek analytical software engineers or systems engineers that are enthusiastic about doing things right, that are interested in the safety critical systems and are keen to see products developed safely.
About the role: - Functional Safety Engineer / Automotive Electronics Systems Engineer
This role is very much about systems engineering, analysis of design, putting processes in place, creating robust methods of traceability and acting as a consultant to research, development and design teams across the company.
You will get to know safety critical standards well, understand how to interpret them and feed that understanding into the design process by way of technical requirements and design specifications.
This in turn will require an amount of analysis using tools such as FMEA and FTA but also getting first hand exposure with validation of electronic systems.
Skills / Knowledge Required: Functional Safety Engineer
* Ideally a graduate of software, electronics engineering or mechatronics with a solid understanding of embedded systems, electronics OR systems design / systems engineering
* At least 2 years of industry experience as an embedded software engineer, electronics engineer or systems engineer working on electronics / mechatronic systems.
* Experience of working on safety critical, highly regulated products or within highly regulated processes would be useful (e.g. ISO26262, IEC 61508, DO-178)
* Experience gained within the automotive, avionics, defence, rail, medical device or industrial control sector may be useful (working on embedded software or electronics systems)
* Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) with the confidence to lead projects and hold meetings with both internal and external stakeholders
More:
* A good appreciation of, systems level, electromechanical systems (ideally products involving moving parts, motors, controllers, embedded software, power electronics, etc)
* Use of tools for analysis of systems (e.g. DFMEA, FMEA, FTA etc) coupled with the ability to interpret data and produce reports
* Able to develop and implement processes and procedures
A strong and genuine interest in the automotive industry, especially ADAS systems or hybrid / electric vehicles, would be very useful. Furthermore, any understanding of electronics reliability, functional safety engineering, systems design using SysML, embedded software engineering, or being familiar with MISRA or ISO26262 would be very handy
