Mechanical or Electrical Supervisor

Role Purpose
The principal purpose of the role is to ensure company energy assets are always operating safely and efficiently, down-time is minimised and energy services to customers are not interrupted.
The Supervising Engineer is responsible for the day-to-day supervision of the mechanical engineering staff providing O&M services for all company engineering assets in Woking. This includes responsibility for through careful planning of staff resources, materials and when necessary contract labour. In the event of breakdowns that cause an interruption or reduction in energy services to customers, it is the Supervising Engineer''s duty to co-ordinate resources to ensure services are restored as quickly as possible.
Through close co-ordination with the Engineering Services Manager, the Supervising Engineer will be responsible for ensuring staff are properly briefed, trained and equipped to carry out maintenance operations, and expectations regarding time and quality of workmanship are clearly communicated. The Supervising Engineer is expected to provide close supervision of all maintenance and repair work by the O&M team and specialist contract labour, and ensure the quality of all work is completed to a high standard, on time and in compliance with statutory requirements.

1. Asset
Management and Operation
* Overall responsibility for asset management of company district heat, power and chilled water generation, distribution and supply network apparatus
* Dynamic management of energy assets to maximise system availability, efficiency, minimise life cycle costs and ensure the protection of health and safety of personnel and the Environment
* Working with the Installations Engineer to receive new and refurbished assets from contractors and ensure their smooth adoption for maintenance
* Development and implementation of Planned Preventative Maintenance schedules through the effective deployment of staff and contract resources
* Management and control of projects and tasks additional to Operation and Maintenance activities, including plant replacement, new customer connections and network extensions
2. Resource Management
* Deployment of appropriate staff resource and tasking engineers to ensure &M work is carried out in the most timely and cost-effective way
* Responsible for the performance of the Engineering Services setting quality standards
* Appointing and coordinating specialist contractors and suppliers to ensure quality of workmanship and materials, timely delivery of services
* Co-ordinating staff resources to provide out-of-hours and emergency response cover
* Assist the Engineering Manager with the preparation of annual Operational Budgets
* Financial responsibility for management and control of purchasing and procurement procedures to minimise costs, and maximise profitability and value.
3. Systems, procedures, controls and reporting
* Day-to-day responsibility for over-seeing compliance with Health and Safety standards for company staff and contractors
* Receive and approve RAMS
* Maintenance and updating of energy asset registers
* Periodic review and updating of emergency response and contingency/service resilience plans
* Ensuring record systems are updated and responsibility for regular reporting of operational activities, health and safety, progress reports, condition surveys, meter data and key service performance indicators.
4. Compliance and standards
* Ensuring compliance with all relevant industry statutory instruments and safety procedures including electrical, gas combustion, pressure vessel, hot water services, water storage and hygiene
* Implementation and compliance with company Safety Management Systems; and Health, Safety, and Environmental policies, Standard and Emergency Operating Procedures
